The 2011 PHASA conference will be held at the Sandton convention centre in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa from 28-30 November 2011. The conference provides a networking and capacity building forum for public health practitioners from South Africa and the rest of Africa.

Three key-note speakers have been confirmed: Prof Davidson Gwatkin, an international health systems expert from the United States of America, Dr Tewabech Bishaw, the President of the Ethiopian Public Health Association and Dr Yogan Pillay, deputy-director general from the National Department of Health. Close to 300 abstracts are being reviewed and it is anticipated that authors will be notified of the outcome of their abstracts by the end of August 2011.

Eight workshops have been finalized and cover exciting areas ranging from Advanced Epidemiology, Development of Personal Effectiveness Skills, through to Social accountability and responsiveness of Medical Schools. More information on the content of the workshops can be found on the conference website  and delegates are requested to register for the workshop of their choice as soon as possible.
