Public health advocacy: How can we grow a national advocacy movement for mental health in South Africa?
There is growing international awareness of the importance of mental health as a public health and development issue in low and middle-income countries. This new prominence owes a great deal to the effects of advocacy, by a variety of individuals and organisations, and through a variety of methods. There is an urgent need to grow and sustain a vibrant mental health advocacy movement in South Africa. When doing that there are several important lessons that can be learnt from health advocacy initiatives around the world.
